Bob Pearson, former head of social media at Dell, is the new head of the Blog Council

April 7, 2009

We’re excited to announce that Bob Pearson, former VP of Communities and Conversations at Dell, is joining the Blog Council as President.

“Social media represents a disruptive set of technologies and techniques that will transform a company’s business practices, improve conversational capabilities with customers and empower employees to learn and share their knowledge in real time,” said Pearson. “In the years ahead, we will see social media evolve into a discipline that companies use throughout their organization — from marketing to technical support to human resources.”

Blog Council members are heads of social media at Fortune 1000-size companies who share best practices as they pioneer these programs. Members include Cisco, GE, Dell, Microsoft, Wells Fargo, The Home Depot, Procter & Gamble, and Walmart.

Pearson is widely known as the leader of one of the first major social media programs at a global enterprise. His work at Dell is considered the model for how big businesses should work with blogs, communities, and other social media.

Pearson joins Andy Sernovitz, who remains CEO of the Blog Council. Sernovitz is known as the founder of the modern word of mouth marketing industry, having created the Word of Mouth Marketing Association. He is also author of “Word of Mouth Marketing: How Smart Companies Get People Talking.”

“We’re the group where practitioners can turn to each other for practical advice on how to achieve results with social media in big businesses,” said Sernovitz. “The trend is clear: Social media is no longer experimental. It is essential for every company. Bob’s practical experience will help our members implement effective social media programs.”

As social media grows in importance, Blog Council members are focused on ROI, ethics, creating management policies, and effectively utilizing the many tools and software platforms available today.

You couldn’t pick a better leader; congrats on snagging Bob for President of Blog Council. No one has as much real world practical experience helping brands listen, engage and ultimately scale the use of social media throughout an organization.

Cheers,
Marcel

My name is Sharon Walker at the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce. This year we will be holding our 3rd annual Technology Trends Conference on either September 22 or 23rd, 2009. We would like to invite Bob Pearson to be our closing keynote speaker. I look forward to having the opportunity to discuss this possibility. I believe that Michael DeFrank from the University of Texas Dallas may have send an earlier comment about this event.
