Facebook as a recruiting tool

Corporate Social Media Case Study: Ernst & Young

Recruiting new employees can be challenging, especially for a professional services firm like Ernst & Young, who adds 3,500 graduates to its payroll each year according to an Information Age article by Pete Swabey.

One of the biggest obstacles to getting new recruits is simply contacting them. Swabey points to research of Amhurst College, which found that only 1% of students could be contacted via a landline, while 99% had a Facebook profile.

To overcome this challenge, Ernst & Young created a careers group on Facebook, attracting thousands of interested students who then received job updates and interacted directly with recruiters and potential future coworkers. The Facebook group was free to create and allows the company to keep in contact with the best candidates.
