Corporate Social Media Case Study: Mayo Clinic

Many companies have created news blogs as extensions of their existing online press rooms, and the Mayo Clinic takes it a step further. Instead of using it simply as a platform for sharing press releases, the institution is using social media to the fullest extent to share stories about the life-changing work it’s doing.  In one recent example, the Mayo Clinic posted a story about a potential new therapy for treating Parkinson’s Disease, and featured:

  • An in-depth story about the new therapy
  • High-resolution imagery of the treatment’s effect on the brain
  • A link to a press release
  • An RSS feed
  • Open comments
  • A “Share This” strip with all the sharing services making it easy to clip and forward to a friend
  • A video interview with a doctor who conducted the clinical trial
