The Big List Blog
Petro-Canada, gas prices … and Mariah Carey
On Petro-Canada’s Pump Talk blog, Director of Downstream Communications Jon Hamilton wrote a post recently to share his insights into why gas prices have fallen. While there are long and technical explanations that he could have used to explain otherwise complex economic theory, Jon chose instead to write in an offhand and friendly manner. In fact, Jon even makes a correlation to Mariah Carey: “Just two months ago gas prices hit levels that had not been seen before after riding a wave of high crude oil prices throughout much of 2008 that crashed right into a nasty hurricane season. Now, we’ve turned back the clock to pump prices not seen since Mariah Carey was at the top of the charts.”
While we can’t speak to Jon’s music tastes, the post does demonstrate how a corporate blog can be used to write about important topics and still give employees the freedom to write in a friendly, personal manner.
