REI's Twinkie eating contest (and other goofy videos)

Corporate Social Media Case Study: REI

REI brings a mix of education and personality to social media, and their YouTube channel is perhaps the best example of that. Alongside short clips on how to repair a damaged snowboard is footage from an REI Twinkie eating contest from a few years ago, and next to that is a video review of a handheld GPS device by Backpacker Magazine.

This combination of how-to’s, reviews, and personality on YouTube is similar to what they’re doing on Twitter, where they share links to content on hiking and snowboarding as well as “Deals of the Day.” While over on Facebook, they’re also posting discounts, sharing photos, reviews, and upcoming events.
