Starbucks following fans’ thirst of social media

Corporate Social Media Case Study: Starbucks

Chris Bruzzo, VP of Brand, Content and Online at Starbucks, noticed that each year people were racing to post the first photos of the coffeehouse chain when decorated red for the holidays on Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. This past spring, Starbucks strategically built on that idea. After it placed new Starbucks posters in six major cities, the company challenged the public to embark on a semi scavenger hunt to find their ads, and then be the first to post pictures of the signs on Twitter.

The social-media based contest extended to employees as well, as the Starbucks staff was able to submit headlines for future ads. Starbucks supported all the social media activity on Twitter by creating a related YouTube channel, where company coffee experts chatted about the importance of a quality drink.
