Who's who of social media savvy government agencies

The US government is getting involved with social media.  That’s no secret.  Finding all of the government agencies with a social media presence can be a bit tricky, but BearingPoint has helped out in a big way by compiling a directory of government agencies.  Some are unofficial, but the list is constantly being updated.

One government-oriented entity that is involved with the Blog Council as a member is the US Coast Guard.  Besides being great people, they are engaged and fully active in social media.  Here are some links to their work:

Having recently experienced a week with no electricity (a few hundred thousand customers out) following an major ice storm in Massachusetts, I learned a great deal about how social media could have helped. A local radio station was doing a great job (WTAG Worcester) of aggregating and distributing information from phone calls, text messages and interviews with officials. What could have been better were RSS feeds of updates to user’s mobile phones, mobile blogs where people can meet to discuss the situation and more web information from the power and town officials (shelters, generators for sale/borrow, etc…).

    Thanks for the links.
