Social media study: More than half of online women regularly engage in social media

The 2009 Women and Social Media Study finds that 53% of women, ages 18-77, participate in some form of social media at least weekly. The study, conducted by BlogHer, iVillage and Compass Partners, also found:

  • 75% of those using social media participate in networking websites, like Facebook or Myspace.
  • 80% read blogs daily or 2-3 times per week, while 57% blog daily or 2-3 times per week. Women who write a blog are also significantly more involved across various social media platforms.
  • The two main reasons women cited for publishing blogs are “for fun” (76%) and “to express myself” (73%).
