You’ll learn how to get started, get past roadblocks, and make your social media program phenomenal — in one afternoon, for just $250.

You’ll get practical, how-to advice on creating great content, getting management buy-in, educating employees, keeping lawyers and regulators happy, simple and ethical disclosure, and engaging fans. You’ll ask questions, discover new ideas, and get answers from people who have been there, done that — all in four hours.

In the BlogWell New York case study presentation, “Telling Our Story,” Sean Gannon and Megan Parker talk about how, at times, the best and most effective way to tell your story is to take it straight to the people who care. GE launched GEReports.com in October 2008, that, in just a few short months, has seen great success and learned valuable lessons in engaging with those people who are actively interested in the happenings at GE.

GE has to deal with unifying a diverse company — one that has branches in entertainment, consumer electronics, medical equipment, and jet engines. GE found success by catering to the interests of their fans: Their blog is published on the website, via RSS, and as an email newsletter; the GE Reports videos go on YouTube, and Megan Parker is available on the company’s Twitter account.

Corporate Social Media Case Study: GE

Putting a twist on the growing Facebook phenomenon, “25 Random Things About Me,” GE published their own version of a random list about themselves on their GE Reports blog.

Here’s an excerpt from their post describing the concept and a few of their random facts:

“In a nutshell, it involves writing 25 unconnected facts about yourself and then proudly sharing (or over-sharing) the post with the world via a chain-letter note to all of your web friends. Are we late to the party? Maybe, but it’s such a good idea, we just couldn’t resist.

  1. We’re really into wind: We’re the #1 manufacturer of wind turbines in the United States with more than 10,000 wind turbines installed globally.
  2. In 2008, GE filed over 2,500 patents worldwide.
  3. Every day, GE Evolution locomotives save so much fuel it’s like taking 43,000 cars off U.S. roads.
  4. Aircraft engines from GE and its partners carry 3.5 million commercial passengers every day.
  5. Hulu, the web video joint venture of NBC Universal and Fox, is part of an evil plot by invading aliens to make you watch more TV. Really.”

Disclosure: GE is a Blog Council member (and an awesome one at that!), but even if they weren’t, we’d write about them anyway.
